This Story has been written by Germaine Greer. She was the famous feminist writer. She wrote many Stories.
A Child is born in many societies. Women go from their mother’s house after marriage to live with their mother-in-laws and wives of their husband’s brothers. It is a traditional matter that women don’t become the member of their family until they have born children. If a girl is lucky and her parents are alive, she goes to her mother’s house in the last months of her pregnancy. When the baby is born, it is occasion of joy for the whole family.
The naming ceremony is lovely. It is held when the child is six days old. A n ew dress is bought for it and a new sari for the mother. There is feasting and singing until late night. The turmeric and garlic are worn to avoid evil spirits. The caremony is held for the birth of boy or girl both. But it is concerned better to have a boy. The birth of a girl is celebrated with the same joy by the women of family. They sit together and sing songs. Some of them may be young unmarried girls. Others are aged ladies of forty or fifty. There are so many jokes, so much laughter. So lastly, we can say really the authoress has given a very good picture of society releted to child birth.

इस स्टोरी को जर्मेन ग्रायर ने लिखा है। वह प्रसिद्ध नारीवादी लेखिका थीं। उसने कई कहानियाँ लिखीं। एक बच्चा कई समाजों में पैदा होता है। महिलाएं अपने पति के भाइयों की सास और पत्नी के साथ रहने के लिए शादी के बाद अपनी मां के घर से चली जाती हैं। यह एक पारंपरिक मामला है कि महिलाएं अपने परिवार की सदस्य नहीं बनती हैं जब तक कि उन्होंने बच्चे पैदा नहीं किए हैं। यदि कोई लड़की भाग्यशाली है और उसके माता-पिता जीवित हैं, तो वह गर्भावस्था के अंतिम महीनों में अपनी माँ के घर जाती है। जब बच्चा पैदा होता है, तो यह पूरे परिवार के लिए खुशी का अवसर होता है। नामकरण संस्कार प्यारा है। यह तब आयोजित किया जाता है जब बच्चा छह दिन का होता है। एक नया ड्रेस इसके लिए खरीदी जाती है और माँ के लिए एक नई साड़ी। देर रात तक दावत और गाना होता है। हल्दी और लहसुन बुरी आत्माओं से बचने के लिए पहने जाते हैं। लड़का या लड़की दोनों के जन्म के लिए देखभाल की जाती है। लेकिन लड़का पैदा होना बेहतर है। लड़की का जन्म परिवार की महिलाओं द्वारा उसी खुशी के साथ मनाया जाता है। वे एक साथ बैठकर गीत गाते हैं। उनमें से कुछ युवा अविवाहित लड़कियां हो सकती हैं। अन्य चालीस या पचास की वृद्ध महिलाएँ हैं। इतने चुटकुले हैं, इतनी हँसी है। इसलिए अंत में, हम यह कह सकते हैं कि वास्तव में लेखक ने समाज की बहुत अच्छी तस्वीर दी है, जो बच्चे के जन्म के लिए है।
